Before making any cuts, conduct a thorough inspection of your tree from multiple angles. Walk completely around the tree and observe its overall shape, looking for asymmetry or sections that appear overgrown. These limbs are brittle and unpredictable, potentially dropping without warning onto structures, vehicles, or people below. Thin the Canopy to Improve Airflow and Light Penetration

Focus on removing branches that grow inward toward the trunk rather than outward, as these create congestion without contributing to structural strength. Eliminate crossing branches where two limbs rub together, choosing to keep the branch with the better angle and position while removing the weaker or poorly placed one. Remove water sprouts, the fast-growing vertical shoots that emerge from the trunk or main branches, as these produce weak wood and clutter the canopy without adding value.
